Key capabilities include:

Rich VPN and MPLS support – The switch supports Multi-VPN-Instance CE (MCE) functionality, enabling isolation between different VPN users on the same device to address data security concerns while reducing investment costs. It also supports MPLS and VLL (Virtual Leased Line) functions, serving as a high-quality enterprise dedicated line access device — one of the few cost-effective box-type MPLS switches in the industry.
Carrier-grade reliability – Beyond traditional STP/RSTP/MSTP spanning tree protocols, the S5700-28C-HI supports SmartLink and RRPP (Rapid Ring Protection Protocol) for millisecond-level link protection and fast failover. It also features SEP (Smart Ethernet Protection), a dedicated Ethernet link-layer ring protocol that provides 50ms service switchover performance, and supports E-Trunk for cross-device link aggregation.
Comprehensive security – The switch supports centralized MAC address authentication and 802.1x authentication, with dynamic or static binding of user credentials including account, IP, MAC, VLAN, port, and client security posture, enabling dynamic policy enforcement (VLAN, QoS, ACL).
IPv6 readiness – With hardware-supported IPv4/IPv6 dual stack and IPv6 over IPv4 tunnels (including manual Tunnel, 6to4 Tunnel, and ISATAP Tunnel), the switch enables line-speed Layer 3 forwarding in pure IPv4, pure IPv6, or co-existing network environments, facilitating smooth network transition from IPv4 to IPv6.
Advanced traffic management – The switch supports complex traffic classification based on quintuple, IP priority, ToS, DSCP, IP protocol type, ICMP type, TCP source port, VLAN, Ethernet frame protocol type, and CoS, along with dual-rate three-color traffic policing per flow.
Intelligent network management – Management capabilities include Smart Stacking, MFF (MAC Forced Forwarding), Virtual Cable Test, port mirroring and RSPAN, Telnet remote configuration, SNMPv1/v2/v3, RMON, eSight network management system, web-based management, auto-configuration, HGMP cluster management, HTTPS, system logging, and hierarchical alarming.
