Huawei CloudEngine S12700E-8 Switch – Product Information Sheet

Product Overview

The Huawei CloudEngine S12700E-8 is a flagship core switch within Huawei’s CloudCampus portfolio, purpose-built for next-generation high-quality campus networks in the Wi-Fi 6 era. Designed for large-scale enterprise deployments across government, finance, energy, and other industries, the S12700E-8 delivers industry-leading data switching capacity and massive terminal access capabilities.

Built on Huawei’s high-performance full-programmable Solar chipsets, the S12700E-8 implements data plane processing through ASICs and delivers 4.8 Tbps of single-slot bandwidth, which can scale to 7.2 Tbps simply by upgrading Switch Fabric Units (SFUs) in the future. The switch employs advanced cell switching technology to achieve true non-blocking switching with zero packet loss.

The S12700E-8 features a control and forwarding separation architecture with 8 service slots, 4 independent SFU slots, 2 MPU slots, and 6 power module slots. It supports a wide range of line cards including 100GE, 40GE, 25GE, 10GE, and GE interfaces, offering up to 192 x 100GE, 192 x 40GE, 320 x 25GE, or 384 x 10GE ports per chassis.

The switch integrates large-capacity WLAN AC capabilities, enabling a single unit to manage up to 10,240 wireless APs and over 50,000 wireless users. It supports wired and wireless convergence with unified user management and policy enforcement. Additional features include VxLAN L2/L3 gateway support with BGP-EVPN, Super Virtual Fabric (SVF) for managing up to 10K client nodes as a single device, iPCA for real-time packet loss detection, and full programmability for service upgrades without hardware replacement.

The S12700E-8 offers extensive interoperability with third-party devices through VBST (compatible with PVST/PVST+/RPVST), LNP (similar to DTP), and VCMP (similar to VTP).
