The Cisco Nexus 2248TP is a Fabric Extender (FEX) designed to operate as a remote line card for a parent Cisco Nexus switch (such as the Nexus 5000 or 7000 Series). It simplifies data center architecture by extending the fabric to the access layer and centralizing management into a single point of control.

It acts as an extension of the parent switch, creating a virtual modular system where there is no need for independent configuration on the FEX unit itself.
