Product Overview
The Dell PowerEdge R960 is a 4U four-socket rack server designed for memory-intensive and mission-critical workloads. It supports up to four 4th Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors (codename Sapphire Rapids), delivering up to 60 cores per processor for a maximum of 240 cores in a single system . The platform is purpose-built for large in-memory databases (SAP HANA, SQL, Oracle), data analytics, AI inferencing, and virtualization/VDI environments where massive memory capacity and high I/O throughput are essential .
With 64 DDR5 DIMM slots supporting up to 16 TB of RDIMM memory, the R960 eliminates the need for slower I/O-based database access by keeping entire datasets in memory . The system features 12 PCIe Gen5 expansion slots, up to 24 NVMe drives, and support for up to 4 double-width 400W accelerators or GPUs, providing exceptional scalability for demanding enterprise applications . Integrated Intel® QuickAssist Technology (optional) offloads compression and encryption tasks, further enhancing performance for data-intensive operations .
The R960 is available with both air cooling and optional Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) configurations, making it adaptable to various data center environments . It is managed by iDRAC9 with Redfish RESTful API support and integrates with Dell OpenManage Enterprise and other industry-standard management frameworks .
