Product Overview
The Dell PowerEdge R740XD is a 2U, dual-socket rack server engineered to deliver a perfect balance between storage scalability and performance. It is the “XD” (eXtreme Density) variant of the R740 platform, designed specifically for storage-intensive workloads that demand high drive counts and flexible configuration options.
The R740XD supports up to 24 front-accessible NVMe drives and a total of up to 32 x 2.5-inch or 18 x 3.5-inch drives across front, mid, and rear bays. This makes it an ideal platform for software-defined storage (SDS), virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), service providers, and database applications that require both high capacity and high-performance storage.
The system’s versatile architecture allows mixing NVMe, SSD, and HDD drive types within the same chassis to create the optimal configuration for performance, capacity, or both. With support for up to three 300W double-wide GPUs or six 150W single-wide GPUs, the R740XD can also accelerate graphics-intensive and compute-heavy workloads.
