Product Overview
The Huawei CloudEngine S8700-6 is a next-generation modular aggregation/access switch designed specifically for premium campus networks in the Wi-Fi 6/7 era. As the mid-range model in the CloudEngine S8700 series (alongside the S8700-4 and S8700-10), the S8700-6 features a 6-slot chassis configuration that includes 2 slots for Switch Routing Units (SRUs) and 4 slots for Line Processing Units (LPUs).
The switch delivers ultra-high densities of GE, 10GE, 25GE, 40GE, and 100GE access ports, enabling customers to quickly build future-proof campus networks with simplified architecture. All key components — including main control boards, power modules, and fan modules — adopt a redundancy design for carrier-grade reliability. The two SRUs work in active/standby mode for 1:1 hot standby, with the SRU in the smaller slot ID serving as the active unit by default.
The CloudEngine S8700-6 integrates native Wireless Controller (AC) functions and can manage up to 5,000 Access Points (APs) without the need for additional hardware ACs. It also supports advanced features including VXLAN L2 and L3 gateways, MACsec, comprehensive QoS policies, IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack, and Cluster Switch System (CSS) virtualization. The S8700-6 also supports CSS in V600R021C10 and later versions. With its highly scalable backplane supporting port bandwidth upgrades to 100 Gbit/s, the S8700-6 represents an ideal choice for aggregation and access nodes in cloud campus networks.
