Huawei S12704 – Product Documentation
Product Overview
The Huawei S12704 is a modular core switch belonging to the Huawei S12700 Series Agile Switches, purpose-built for next-generation high-quality campus networks. Designed to improve user experiences, reduce operating costs, and deliver robust security and trustworthiness for the fully connected wireless era, the S12704 serves as an ideal core switching platform for campus networks in the Wi-Fi 6 era.
The S12704 features a highly reliable CLOS architecture with separate system control and switching boards, enabling SFUs to be configured on demand to reduce costs while allowing future upgrades for smooth network evolution. Its fully programmable architecture, built upon Huawei’s Ethernet Network Processor (ENP), allows flexible and rapid customization of forwarding behaviors, helping networks evolve smoothly toward Software-Defined Networking (SDN).
Key innovations include:
-
Industry-leading native AC capability: The switch integrates a built-in hardware T-bit wireless access controller, managing up to 10,240 APs for unified wired and wireless network management, reducing overall construction costs and simplifying campus O&M.
-
Industry-leading free mobility: Refined policy management based on users and applications ensures consistent service policies and user experiences anytime, anywhere, and across any access mode.
-
Leading CSS2 cluster architecture: Based on innovative CSS2 hardware clustering technology, the S12704 supports 1+N backup of Main Processing Units (MPUs) on modular core switches, ensuring that an MPU failure does not affect service data exchange across the entire system. The cluster delivers 1.92 Tbps cluster bandwidth with 4 μs cross-chassis latency.
-
iPCA (Packet Conservation Algorithm for Internet): Enables on-demand, point-to-point detection of any service flow, facilitating precise service management.
-
SVF (Super Virtual Fabric) 2.0 virtualization: Virtualizes up to 4K clients into a single device, supporting two layers of ASs in an SVF system.
The S12700 Series is available in four models – S12704, S12708, S12710, and S12712 – allowing flexible selection based on different network requirements. The S12704 supports a maximum of 4 LPU line processing units and 2 SFU switching fabric units. All key components – including power supplies, fans, MPUs, LPUs, SFUs, and cluster cards – support hot swapping and redundant backup.
