IBM 00AR301 Overview
The IBM 00AR301 is a specialized, hot-swappable Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) Battery Backup Module engineered for the IBM Storwize V7000 (Gen1) and Storwize V7000 Unified storage controller systems.
Commonly referred to as a Cache Backup Battery, its primary purpose is data protection. In the event of an abrupt data center utility power failure, this module provides instantaneous emergency power to the storage node’s controller canister. This gives the system enough time to flush volatile write-cache data directly onto non-volatile flash storage drives, preventing data corruption and loss.

Cache Vault Protection: When main AC power drops, the battery initializes in milliseconds, maintaining node operations long enough to commit unwritten data from RAM to internal state drives before initiating a controlled node shutdown.

Integrated Intelligent Circuitry: Features an internal battery management system (BMS) that monitors internal thermals, voltage balancing, and state-of-health (SoH). It communicates these real-time analytics back to the IBM Storwize management GUI.

Online Hot-Swap Servicing: Can be extracted and replaced from the rear of the active controller canister while the storage array is fully online under production workloads, provided the secondary controller or partner battery is healthy.
