IBM 00RX892 Overview
The IBM 00RX892 (Feature Code 5899) is a PCIe Generation 2.0 x4 short form-factor adapter that delivers four high-reliability, wire-speed Gigabit Ethernet (1GbE) ports.
Based on the highly stable and energy-efficient Broadcom BCM5719 controller chipset, this adapter provides cost-effective, high-density network connectivity over standard copper twisted-pair cabling. Each RJ45 interface independently supports 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-negotiation, making it highly versatile for connecting enterprise host systems to legacy switches, storage networks, or administrative management lanes.
(Note: Although sometimes colloquially referred to in legacy listings with varying PCIe lane configurations, the underlying BCM5719 ASIC operates on a native PCIe Gen2 x4 interface).

Key Features & Protocol Support
-
Port Aggregation & Bonding: Four independent MAC arrays support Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) and IEEE 802.3ad. This allows multi-port bonding into a single high-throughput channel to maximize fault tolerance and bandwidth.
-
Virtualization Optimization: Supports Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) and Virtual Machine Device Queues (VMDq) to safely bypass the hypervisor layers, reducing host CPU processing overhead in high-density virtualized logical partitions (LPARs).
-
Hardware Offloading Engine:
-
TCP/UDP/IP Stateless Checksum Offload
-
Large Send Offload (LSO) / TCP Segmentation Offload (TSO)
-
Receive Side Scaling (RSS)
-
-
Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE): Compliant with IEEE 802.3az guidelines, significantly lowering idle state power consumption across the server rack layout.
-
Jumbo Frames: Supports framing payloads up to 9 KB, maximizing structural performance for heavy storage replication and continuous database transmissions.
