Dell PowerEdge R740 Server — Product Documentation List & Technical Specifications
Product Overview
The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U, two-socket rack server designed to accelerate application performance through a balance of compute, memory, storage, and accelerator resources. Built on the Intel Xeon Scalable processor architecture, the R740 supports up to two processors with a maximum of 28 cores each, delivering up to a 27% increase in processing cores and 50% increase in memory bandwidth compared to the previous generation . The platform is purpose-built for demanding workloads including virtualization, database management, and VDI deployments, with support for up to three 300W double-width GPUs or six 150W single-width GPUs, as well as up to four FPGA accelerators . Its flexible storage architecture accommodates up to 16 x 2.5-inch or 8 x 3.5-inch front-accessible drives, while the 24 DIMM slots enable memory configurations scaling to 3TB with LRDIMMs or up to 6.14TB with Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory. Management is handled through the embedded iDRAC9 controller with Lifecycle Controller, complemented by OpenManage Enterprise for fleet-level administration .
