Oracle Sun SPARC T5-4 / T5-8 Main Module Motherboard Assembly
The Oracle Main Module Motherboard Assembly is the core logic carrier and central communication backplane for the SPARC T5-4 and T5-8 high-end enterprise Unix servers. Built with a modular system architecture, this board acts as the structural and electrical backbone—interconnecting the massive SPARC T5 CPU processor modules, memory risers, system configuration PROMs, and the high-speed PCIe I/O subsystem.
1. Product Identification & Part Numbers
-
Oracle Part Numbers (PNs): 7070931, 7070932
-
Marketing / Assembly Part Number: 7305706
-
Alternate / Substitute PNs: 7076168, 7070928
-
Compatible Systems:
-
Oracle SPARC T5-4 Server (3U Rackmount)
-
Oracle SPARC T5-8 Server (8U Rackmount)
-
2. Technical Architecture & System Integration
Because the SPARC T5-4 and T5-8 use a unique “modular tray” system, the main module motherboard assembly does not host the CPUs and RAM directly on its surface. Instead, it serves as the central interconnect base inside the main module drawer.
Interconnect Matrix
-
Processor Module Links: Connects to the hot-swappable Processor Modules containing the SPARC T5 CPUs (up to 4 processors/64 cores/512 threads in T5-4; up to 8 processors/128 cores/1024 threads in T5-8) and their corresponding DDR3 ECC DIMMs.
-
PCIe Subsystem: Routes high-speed serial lanes to the PCIe card carriers (supporting PCIe Gen3 standard x8 lanes).
-
Rear I/O Interface: Feeds connections to the Rear I/O module, facilitating network connectivity and external administration.
3. Onboard Components & Slots
When replacing or maintaining this motherboard, several critical system-specific logic chips and controller daughter cards are situated directly on this assembly:
-
System Configuration PROM Slot: Houses the physical non-volatile PROM chip that stores the server’s unique Host ID and system MAC address.
Critical Maintenance Note: When replacing a faulty 7070931/7070932 motherboard, the System Configuration PROM must be transferred from the old board to the new board to preserve server identity and software licenses.
-
Service Processor (SP) Slot: Mounts the dedicated Oracle ILOM (Integrated Lights Out Manager) Service Processor Card, managing remote lights-out access, system monitoring, and environmental telemetry.
-
System Battery (RTC): Built-in lithium coin-cell battery to maintain the real-time clock.
-
Chassis Midplane Connectors: Heavy-duty multi-pin signal and power receptacles that slide into the chassis backplane.
4. Key Operating Features
